Beirut satellite images show port before and after explosion
Satellite images show the port warehouse where the explosion that devastated Beirut was located has been reduced to nothing more than a watery crater, while nearby buildings have been flattened. A grain silo located opposite, which was one of Lebanon's largest food stores, was reduced to little more than crumbling concrete columns after a fire ignited 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate, causing a blast with the force of a small nuke. At least 135 people were killed in the explosion while another 5,000 were wounded and dozens left missing. The economic cost of the damage is thought to be around $5billion with half the city's buildings damaged, but the more-pressing human cost includes 300,000 people left homeless along with hospitals struggling to cope.

Diab had formed his government in January after a protracted political crisis.
He laid the blame for the country’s myriad problems at the feet of the political elite, who have ruled Lebanon since the end of the civil war nearly 30 years ago. He said they have caused political and economic devastation and brought about last week’s tragedy and he called for accountability.
After addressing the nation, Diab went to the presidential palace where President Michel Aoun accepted the government’s resignation.

The moment of the massive explosion that rocked the Lebanese capital Beirut, killing more than 137 people and injuring thousands, was captured in high definition by a shop owner who was recording when the blast hit.
Video shows smoke rising from Beirut's port with small sparks being seen in what is believed to be fireworks that were set off by the blaze. According to reports, fireworks were stored in the same warehouse where 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate had previously been stored. After several seconds of recording, a massive explosion bursts outwards, which then moves outwards towards where the shop owner is, the resulting shockwave impacting multiple buildings in the process.
